Description

Mountain Projects has been overseeing the Head Start program in Haywood and Jackson Counties since 1965. We operate centers in Canton, Clyde, Waynesville, Sylva, and on the campus of Western Carolina University. As a program funded by the federal government, Head Start provides extensive developmental programs for children aged birth to five years from low-income families. Our goal is to equip these children with school readiness and social skills, while also empowering their families to be self-reliant.

Our program provides educational, health and nutritional, and social services support to the students. We firmly believe in the active involvement of parents in their child's education and offer various services to accomplish this, such as parent involvement and literacy programs. The Head Start program is accessible to all qualifying families at no cost.
